How Lumen started

We wanted the whole route.
Not another checklist.

Something light enough to stay out of the way, but capable of taking an almost unreasonable goal and paving as much of the road as possible.

The thing we wanted

Give us the road.

We already knew what we wanted. Writing it in another app did nothing. We wanted the steps, the substeps, and the next move after that—even if the goal itself sounded ridiculous.

A rough draft would have been useful. What still fascinates us is how often Lumen gives back something uncannily close to the plan we had in our head.

The surface

It had to belong to the thing in our hand.

Not dressed up as one particular phone. Not stretched awkwardly across a desktop. Lumen needed to feel native wherever it opened.

So we began with a blank statement: black, type, motion, and a few deliberate hints of taste. The device disappears. The goal does not.

Sometimes progress needs a different sky.

The themes stopped being decoration. They became different contexts for the same truth: how close are we to the thing we said we wanted?

Then something broke

“Go to the gym” is not a one-time step.

Inside “get in shape,” checking that box once is almost meaningless. Some parts of a goal only work when they come back tomorrow.

That missing loop became Tasks and the Route feature. Lumen finds the work that needs repetition and carries it into the daily plan, where it can keep happening.
